Cloth Face Masks From Designer Claire Pettibone
Bridal designer Claire Pettibone has created cloth face masks in her feminine style to help protect against the spread of Covid-19. The cotton toile masks are designed for women, to cover the nose and mouth without excess bulk. Made of 100% cotton with silk ties that are adjustable around the ears, and tie at the base of the neck, allows the mask to fit comfortably. Each mask features an interior cotton voile pocket for a filter.
For every mask sold, the company is donating one to healthcare and frontline workers. Purchases enable the small business to keep paying their Los Angeles team while they await the re-opening of their flagship salon and for customers around the world to be able to welcome brides back to dress shopping.
FROM THE DESIGNER
When the Coronavirus started spreading, I began to think of ways I could contribute. At first, I was concerned about designing something pretty for what is a very serious reason. I don’t take the work that doctors and nurses are doing at all lightly, or what people are going through losing loved ones – it’s just heartbreaking. But when it became clear that we will all be wearing masks for the foreseeable future, and that there was still a need for PPE, I decided that designing a mask that is functional while also attractive, was something I could offer. Selling these online doesn’t generate a profit, but if we can just cover our costs and keep our team working while doing something productive, I feel good about it.
The butterfly has become one of my signature motifs. It represents rebirth, renewal and transformation. For me, it is also a symbol of hope and beauty. I know these are challenging times for all of us, and I hope this small gesture brings a bit of light as we join together to protect each other and slow the spread of this virus. It’s such a daunting time to be in any business, and weddings have been hit especially hard. Ultimately, I believe in love, and I have to believe we’ll get through this.
The Claire Pettibone bridal collection embodies the designer’s pioneering vision of effortless style and luxurious detailing infused with an enchanted spirit. Gentle hints of color, European laces, and graceful embroideries flutter and flow to make a woman look and feel like a goddess. The West Coast designer brings a deeply feminine sensibility and unique artistry to her ethereal, bohemian, and vintage inspired wedding gowns and bridal accessories. What begins as a spark of the imagination, is sketched and designed by Claire herself, translated into intricate couture fabrics and details, and finally, each piece is hand-crafted in the designer’s Los Angeles atelier housed in a 1920’s historic landmark known as “The Castle”.
