We planned and prepared this handsome couple for their romantic and fun engagement session on the campus of New College of Florida in sunny Sarasota, Florida. This is one of our favorite locations because of the variety of looks it provides, the gorgeous architecture and of course the waterfront! These images are timeless, cheerful and dripping in romance. The chemistry they shared made our jobs easy. And, as Alexis said, our Engagement Session Prep Guide made planning for her and Mat easier than she had expected. Their wardrobe, accessories and props were absolutely perfect.
This Florida engagement session was everything that dreams are made of. We originally connected with our amazing couple, Alexis and Mat, by the preferred vendor list with Powel Crosley Estate. As with so many couples this year, their wedding planning went through a bit of a metamorphosis.
They called us a few months back to discuss what would be new plans for their April 2021 wedding. We hopped on a call and quickly began to learn that they had decided on a destination wedding to Cancun, Mexico! The next statement that followed was, “But we don’t want to do it if you guys can’t come and still be our photographers.” Well, needless to say, we were ecstatic! So, as you’ll see in a few of the images, this beautifully in love couple will be tying the knot in tropical Cancun, Mexico late next spring!
Mat and I first met on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship! Mat went on the cruise for a bachelor party and I was on a girls trip. Little did we know that would be the cruise where our lifelong journey began.
Our relationship is unique because Mat and I both have a passion for working with kids with Autism. It’s such a special feeling to enjoy what you do, and better yet to enjoy it next to your fiancé!
I knew Mat was the one when I saw how great of a father he was. He was so patient, loving, and kind and I knew I would want him to be the father of our kids one day.I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Alexis when we were at the beach and I saw her interacting with my son. It was so effortless for her to be so passionate and caring towards TJ. At that point I knew I wanted her in me and TJ’s life forever.
I proposed to Alexis on the beach in her hometown. There was a ton of planning, lots of which ended up changing due to Alexis being so intuitive and a planning expert. She typically organizes everything and kept asking questions that I couldn’t give her answers to without ruining the surprise. Finally, I found a plan that worked and caught her off guard. I was able to have her brother fly down for the weekend and he helped capture the moment. After the proposal I planned for a surprise engagement party that night with both of our families. It was everything she wanted and more, and if you watch the videos her tears speak for themselves.
I was so shocked when I saw the ring because not only was it perfect but I also never really gave Mat hints about the type of ring I wanted. It was truly something that he picked out for me and it made it that much more special. It has a beautiful stone with a halo, and the band has twists that make an infinity sign on both sides with stones as well. Its perfect!
In the beginning of the wedding process we imagined a big wedding with friends and family. Due to the fact we got engaged a week before COVID hit, our wedding plans continued to get pushed back and more complicated. So one day we just called it quits and said we met at a destination, became “official” at the beach, got engaged on the beach, so why not tie the knot at a destination too. The most exciting part is that we really don’t have to plan anything! Its a destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico and thankful the resort has wedding packages that include all of our wants/needs. For the actual wedding, we are most excited to spend the whole week with family and friends. The wedding is more than one night, its truly a week of celebration and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
