From the Photographer

Clay and Allison met at a wedding in 2016… Allison’s college best friend and Clay’s high school friend were getting married; Allison was a bridesmaid while Clay was a groomsman. They even walked down the aisle with each other. Clay proposed to Allison where it all started, the reception venue where they first met!

Clay and Allison live in Findlay, Ohio and that’s exactly where we had their engagement session. We first stopped at the The Findlay Brewing Co for some drinks and relaxation. After they finished their drinks, we then walked down the street towards the Marathon Headquarters to get a few shots in downtown Findlay. We ended the session at Clay’s family farm located in Fostoria, Ohio. This farm has been in Clay’s family for many years! When we arrived to the farm, we could tell that a rainstorm was imminent. The dark clouds and thunder rumbling in the background, made some very beautiful shots. Thankfully, I brought my umbrella to get some amazing shots in the rain! We ended the session by getting some pictures in front of the family’s beautiful, white barn. The rain continued to pour, but it didn’t stop us from capturing gorgeous portraits. I’m so excited for Clay and Allison’s wedding next May!

Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

We actually first met at a wedding! I was a bridesmaid and he was the groomsman that I was paired to walk with. We instantly hit if off and spent the evening dancing, drinking, and having a great time!

What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. What makes your relationship unique?

Our relationship has been special from the start! When we first met, we had a two hour long distance relationship. It was really hard to not see each other throughout the weeks, but we managed to spend almost every weekend traveling to spend time together. We connected very quickly over our love of Jon Pardi, Miller Lite and coaching sports. Now that we no longer have two hours between us, we get to spend time supporting each other at our high school games (Clay is a varsity boy’s basketball coach and I am a JV girl’s volleyball coach) and in every other aspect in life. We love to travel to visit friends & family and take long weekend vacations when we can!

How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)

We have talked about this question a lot! When I asked Clay when he knew I was the one, Clay says it was when I decided to move to his hometown to be closer to him. He said that it showed him that I was all in and committed to him and where we were heading! I would say my answer is very similar. I knew Clay was the one when I wanted to spend more time with him than apart. Sunday evenings were always dreaded when one of us had to travel back two hours without the other.

Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?

March 17th, 2019 was the best and most unexpected day! Yes, that is St. Patrick’s Day and it is also Clay’s birthday. Every year for St. Patty’s Day, we take a long weekend vacation with a group of our friends to a different city and celebrate with green beer & outfits! March 17th was a Sunday this year, so after our weekend away, we got home and cuddled up to watch tv all afternoon. We had dinner plans with his parents in a city about 30 minutes from our house. Clay’s mom suggested going there to eat because she has heard great things about the restaurant and they would be there visiting friends in the afternoon. After dinner, we were heading home when I realized Clay was taking an unexpected turn. When I asked him where he was going he simply said, “I want to check something out”. Still clueless, I was looking around until I saw it. He took me back to the reception venue that we first met! It was the sweetest surprise I will forever hold in my heart.

We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!

I had never showed what type of ring I wanted to Clay! He knew that my best friend and I had shared photos and talked about it often, so he decided to take her and his mom with him to pick it out. He is not a big shopper, so decided pretty quickly! It is perfect – oval diamond, with a unique band. I have had so many compliments that it is so beautiful and unique and I could not agree more.

Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?

I have been in full wedding planning mode! We have a lot of the big things checked off our list – catering, photography, venues, bridal parties, colors, and I picked out my wedding dress! The little details are falling into place and I am so excited to have a day that everyone we love can celebrate our love.
