This was truly a dream to get to photograph such an amazing engagement session with two amazing people on the North Shore of Oahu. Amanda went all out getting ready for the shoot, complete with a new dress and a flower crown to match! The weather was windy so we just went with it and kept the images simple and fun. We found a break from the wind in a romantic grove of trees that also happened to be home to a crazy number of mosquitos. Got ourselves bitten like crazy but it was worth it!
Amanda and Benjamin met in May of 2013. Ben was in his final year of Internal Medicine residency at the University of Colorado and Amanda was working as a nurse in the Cardiac ICU. Ben had just started his CICU rotation and took notice of Amanda’s kind soul and compassion for others. The two bonded during late night call shifts and eventually Amanda worked up the courage to ask Ben out on a date. On a rare day, off of work, they enjoyed a perfect sunny afternoon in Denver, CO; biking, drinking, talking and eventually sharing their first kiss. Unfortunately, Amanda had a pending nurse contract with the UCLA Medical Center, so after only a month of dating Ben, she moved to Los Angeles, California. Admittedly, Amanda did not believe a long distance relationship would work between the two of them… especially considering Ben’s demanding residency schedule. However, he surprised her with his unwavering dedication and conscious effort. He spent what little free time and money he had calling, texting and visiting Amanda. At the end of her 6-month contract, Ben asked Amanda move in with him. He promised her a puppy and a walk-in closet, so of course she said YES! When Ben graduated Residency, the lovers made a pact to travel before Ben’s potential Fellowship training. So they packed up and moved to Seattle for travel medicine assignments. After six months in Washington, Ben and Amanda were ready for some sunshine so they sold all their stuff and bought a one-way ticket to Hawaii! After living in Hawaii for two years, Ben planned the most incredible proposal with the help of Love and Water Photography. He gifted Amanda with a Land and Sea photo package in Maui “for her birthday.” The package included both underwater couples photos as well as coastal “land” photos. They took pictures allllll day long (even though Ben HATES getting his picture taken!), until sunset when he got down on one knee and asked if the pictures could serve as “engagement photos.”
