From the Photographer

Bianca and Brandon met when they were both attending Brooklyn Law School. Brandon sat in front of Bianca during their first year in their Civil Procedure class. They were friends for a while but all along, Bianca had a crush on Brandon. They finally went on their first date to River Cafe in Brooklyn and the rest is history. Brandon asked Bianca to be his girlfriend on their first date. It was a pretty easy answer for Bianca considering she had a huge crush on Brandon since they met.

Brandon proposed with a Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream pint that said: “Will You Marry Me?” Which is why Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream stands so significant with both of them. Bianca had spent a few days at her parent’s house and when she got home, she saw the pint sitting on the counter and was about to yell at Brandon for leaving it out on the counter until she realized what it said. Brandon got down on one knee and asked Bianca to marry him. The best part was that her utter response was “does my mom know?!” Brandon said, “Yes, so is that a yes?!”

They’re tying the knot at Sky View Golf Club in November 2021.

Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

We met in our first year at Brooklyn Law School. Brandon sat behind me in Civil Procedure. At first, we were just friends and would talk before class. Then we started hanging out with mutual friends. Finally, we went on our first date to the River Cafe in Brooklyn Bridge Park!

What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. What makes your relationship unique?

Brandon and I both love to travel and we both love to eat. We have a map hanging in our living room pinned with all the places we’ve been together. Obviously, we’ve had to cancel all our travel plans in 2020, but we have some exciting trips planned for 2021! We also love trying new restaurants, new cuisines, and new recipes at home. Eating and travel is a beautiful love language and a beautiful marriage of passions. Whenever we are in a new place, we make sure we experience the food that they boast, whether it be tacos and mango preparado in Mexico City or crepes, cheese, and champagne in France.

How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship?

I think the process of falling in love and knowing someone is ‘the one’ is small and slow – it has been a bunch of tiny things here and there. I think we are still falling in love with each other as we learn more about each other and our partnership and as our relationship grows. However, we knew we had hit the point of ‘this is my partner’ on our first trip together – to Atlanta. We spent a long weekend in Atlanta after about 6 months of dating. It was in March and there was a huge snowstorm back in the NY area so toward the end of our trip, we had to completely pivot. We changed our flight from a street corner in downtown Atlanta, completely altered our itinerary, and ran into the College Football Hall of Fame about twenty minutes before it closed. It was the first time we had to deal with something imminent and work together to fix the problem – and it was seamless. We proved to ourselves that weekend that we were really in love and that we were really good partners for each other.

Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?

Brandon and I had discussed getting engaged and getting married, but our timeline was always the summer after we graduate law school (which is now, summer 2020). I was just kind of answering Brandon’s questions about rings and proposals with no suspicion. Brandon even bought a ring sizer and I thought nothing of it. You should know that, one, I hate surprises, and two, I am extremely gullible. Little did I know, Brandon figured out that the only way to surprise me was with a proposal a whole year earlier than I anticipated. In April 2019, he asked my parents and my brothers and then he started ring shopping. Fast forward to July 31, 2019. I was staying at my parents for a few days, and when I came back to our apartment, I opened the door and immediately went to yell at Brandon for leaving a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream out on the counter to melt. Then I read the pint, which said “Bianca, Will You Marry Me?” In complete shock, I turned around to see Brandon standing in our doorway with a ring, and all he could utter was, “Surprise!” My first response was, “Does my mom know?” And Brandon responses, “Yes, so is that a yes?” Obviously I said “yes!”A few days later we flew to Paris for a vacation turned engagement celebration.

We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!

Brandon worked with Do Amore to create a custom engagement ring. It’s a round solitaire diamond with a gold band. Diamond is my birthstone, so inside the band is an opal, which is Brandon’s birthstone. Do Amore is a really really great company. Every ring they make brings clean water to a person in need. They give funds to its partners who build and maintain water projects in communities without clean water that have not been prioritized by government and NGOs due to the remoteness of the areas where they work. On the Do Amore website, you can even track where your ring is having an impact. My ring is helping a community in southwestern Ethiopia.

What are you most excited about when it comes to your wedding planning?

We are most excited to actually get married – to make our vows to each other. One of my brothers is also officiating the wedding, and we are picking reading from plays, books, and court cases (so nerdy!) that mean a lot to us. It’s just going to be a really personal and special ceremony, and we are so excited for that. We are also really excited to eat good food and celebrate with our friends and families!
