Felix + Brianne are truly the most fun-loving couple! They have an epic love story of how they first met and Felix will tell you that he knew the moment he saw her that she was the one. He actually told her the first night they met that he was going to marry her! Crazy right?!? Felix and Brianne tell the story best so I am excitedly awaiting for them to share the whole story. They are absolutely smitten with each other and we have fallen in love with them and their story as well. This November we have the honor to capture their wedding day too!
The inspiration for our day began with a color palette and the rest took form from there! While we do not have a specific theme, our style is a blend of elegance and rustic, with hints of our personalities mixed throughout. It is the small details that bring your style together! We are incorporating one cultural and religious tradition in our ceremony. We will be using the lasso that was first used at the Groom’s paternal grandparents’ wedding in 1959. A lasso (or rope) is placed around the bride and groom’s shoulders in the form of an “8” (the infinity symbol) after they have exchanged their vows to symbolize their everlasting union. This same lasso has been used in the weddings of nine other family members across six decades, making our wedding number ten!
Our ceremony and reception spaces are massive! Tall ceilings, huge chandeliers and glass mirrors everywhere. So to fill the spaces we have worked closely with our florist, wedding planner and the venue coordinator to make sure both areas are decorated beautifully and represent our desired style. As far as DIY projects, we repurposed an antique mirror to utilize as our “Welcome” sign for our guests! We are sure more DIY projects are to come as we get closer to our wedding date.
We will have flowers galore! The bridal bouquets and centerpieces consist of flowers with names we had never heard of before, but made us say “Ooooo!” when we saw them! And courtesy of Pinterest, flowers will be used in all of our decorations including our photo-station backdrop!
From the ceremony to the reception our wedding will feature many personalized touches! One of our favorite personal touches is a customized gift the Groom had made for his male first cousins to symbolize how much they mean to him and stand out as special guests!
Brianne: It was definitely a cliche moment. The boutique stylist asked me to try on a dress that I would not have chosen on my own and I absolutely loved it! I immediately knew it was the dress for me!Felix: Some people say I am boujee. Those people would be right. Tasteful rose-gold accessories such as custom cuff-links and an Italian watch will accompany my navy blue tuxedo.
How do all 20 year olds meet? At a hole-in-the-wall dive bar where you are the youngest person by thirty years of course! Brianne had made the trip from Indianapolis to celebrate her 21st birthday with her family from Northwest Indiana. Felix just happened to stop in for “one more beer.” Then fate and circumstances brought us together for the first time. One more beer turned into a long night of talking, dancing and our first kiss. Brianne still happily admits she made the first move! And it was on this night Felix looked Brianne in the eyes and told her he was going to marry her, to which she replied “Okay, but only if you wear a Mariachi suit at our wedding.” Which totally is not happening by the way!
Felix: A little bird clued me in that Brianne always hoped when I proposed to her it would be special but private. But with Brianne being Brianne she also wanted to be able to celebrate our engagement with our families and friends. So, she got both! The night of the proposal in our Chicago hotel room, draped in candles and flower petals, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.
The next day, 364 days from the day we first met, we returned home with plans of getting dinner and drinks with some friends… or so she thought. After procrastinating all day long, much to Brianne’s expense, we returned to the local dive bar where we first met and were happily greeted by all of our family and friends. Our surprise engagement party was one to remember… or to at least try and remember!
Brianne: I am most excited for the moment I walk down the aisle and see my Groom waiting for me! Felix: Two words: Open Bar! In all seriousness I cannot wait until we exchange the vows we have written for each other.
The best advice we have for engaged couples planning their day is to START SAVING AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE! Also, consider consulting a professional event coordinator. There are so many intricate details that go into wedding planning and having an experienced person to help truly makes a difference!
