Pacing back and forth at the train station, Alex awaited confirmation from Colleen’s sister that she made it to each part of the scavenger hunt. She was so close to the end and it was almost time for him to get down on one knee to propose. Alex had been planning this day for a long time and was ready to commit himself to Colleen for the rest of his life. But, before we get to the Downtown Kissimmee proposal, let’s step back to the beginning.
Alex and Colleen both grew up in our small hometowns of Kissimmee and Saint Cloud. Their 13 year long adventure together included their spiritual journey as Catholics, a train trip to Washington DC for March for Our Lives, and time apart while going to separate colleges. The couple works with a long distance relationship as Alex completes medical school in Arkansas, while Colleen is a paralegal in Kissimmee. Alex was ready to spend the rest of his life with Colleen and wanted to make sure it was special.
About a month ago, I received a Facebook message from Alex asking if we were available after Thanksgiving for a proposal. I LOVE a good proposal and seeing the genuine reaction of a couple in love. Of course, we were going to make it happen! He explained to me that he wanted to propose in Downtown Kissimmee at the train station. Alex and Colleen often took train rides to Winter Park for adventures or to hang out with friends, so this wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. There was a particular part of the station that meant a lot to the couple, so after a little conversation, we arranged to make the proposal happen there.
We met a very nervous Alex at the train station on the Friday after Thanksgiving. He showed us the exact area that was special to them as a couple and we worked to find the best lighting. Alex explained that he was having his family help Colleen on a scavenger hunt throughout town. He also enjoyed planning adventurous dates, so this was normal for them too! Every stop on the scavenger hunt involved their relationship, which was so perfect. Alex waited anxiously on the train station benches, waiting for his fiancé-to-be, while we waited in different areas of the park in Downtown Kissimmee. He finally gave us the signal that she was pulling in, and we awaited the moment with butterflies in our stomach. Alex executed the whole plan perfectly. He dropped to one knee and gave her the most gorgeous ring in a small wooden box. From her reaction during the proposal to her surprise throughout the mini engagement session after, we couldn’t ask for anything more! Colleen couldn’t believe she didn’t figure it out and that everyone else knew without spilling the beans to her.
