Meet Matthew and Liz… Some of the COOLEST and straight up gorgeous humans know! I cannot tell you how much FUN we had trekking around Old Newport Beach, in the rain no less, skipping, climbing, rolling around in a meadow, and dipping our feet in the softest, sparkly sand …. We started off in the Upper Back Bay where I put my poor boy Matt through the ringer with a little cardio… let’s just say there were was lots of lifting involved and Liz loved every minute of it! And then we decided to head down to the water to catch that stunning Cali golden hour… and after watching these two in action, dancing all over the stunning coastline, I was in love… and let’s just say I am even more excited now for the wedding later this year!
Well… we are a Tinder success story! We matched and talked for about a month and then stopped talking. I decided I wanted to change a few photos on my profile, one of which being my step-brothers photos. Matt saw those and said “no way, you know Andy and Teddy” and I said “yes, they are my step-brothers”… well he actually grew up with them and were good friends throughout high school. Crazy small world!
We are huge foodies. We live in downtown Long Beach so there are always food festivals and different restaurants to try which makes it a perfect area for us.We also push each other to work on our personal goals. If Matt is striving to achieve something I am the first one in his corner pushing him to succeed and he does the same for me.
Matt is so loving. I used to work at a job where I had to be in the office at 6:30am. He would always text me sweet notes in the morning saying “I love you”, “I miss you”, I can’t sleep without you”. He would always hold my hand every night before bed which I thought was so sweet but I first knew he was the one after my dog got sick and he started taking care of her. My pup was panting heavily and was kind of lethargic and he put her up on the bed and was applying a cool wash cloth to her back and stomach. I knew in that moment that he was my person… someone who was compassionate and would be a great partner in life and someday be the best dad.
Well I first knew it was getting real when he accidentally face timed me from the jewelry store. That day he said he was going to get lunch with his parents and he NEVER face times so I figured they were all out at lunch and wanted to say hello only when I picked up the call it was a black screen and I could hear his voice and a woman’s voice in the background saying “well you don’t want the diamond to be to big but you also don’t want it to be to small”. I immediately hung up and started calling everyone to tell them that I was going to get engaged sometime soon. My 30th birthday was coming up and we decided we were going to go to New York with another couple for a week to celebrate so I thought… hmm it may happen when we are there. So we are in New York and I am wearing cute outfits every day thinking that was going to be the day he got down on one knee. My birthday is May 14th so we decided we would party on 5/13 into the morning of 5/14 and that would be our night that we really went all out.
Well, we woke up hung over out of our minds! 5/14 was the last day we were there so I was thinking… is he going to do it? We all decided to go out to brunch and maybe drink away the hang over but nobody could even drink… it was that bad. My fiance loves to eat so when he only ordered a soup at brunch, only had a bite and went to the bathroom like 8 times, I was thinking okay.. either he is so hung over he can barely function or today is the day. It was raining that day and his initial plan was going to be to take me up to the empire state building or one world trade to propose but that day we wouldn’t have been able to see a thing so he suggested we take a stroll in Central Park… in the rain. — Side note, everyone but my fiance knew that I knew that he was going to propose — so when he suggested we walk in Central Park in the rain we all looked at each other like okay, its going to happen today. So we were walking in Central Park and because I knew it was coming I wanted to mess with him a little so I started talking about one of my favorite shows, Law and Order SVU. Saying things like “Oh these are the bridges people get attacked under” and “I remember an episode where someone was found dead right here!”. I could feel him getting so nervous and because it was raining he stopped under one of the bridges and pulls me around to face him and the first words out of his mouth as he is turning me to face him was “I just want to get this over with” lol. Poor thing was hung over and so nervous and just wanted to get the ring on my finger. So he got down on one knee and told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him.At the end of it all, he said I did not look that surprised so we ALL told him that we knew it was going to happen and he started laughing. We then went to Tavern on the Green, popped a bottle of champagne and ate a celebratory piece of cake.
The ring is beautiful!! The ring has some vintage detailing on the sides, has a double halo and a diamond on top of the double halo. I did ask for a bit of rose gold in the ring however there was a guy that my fiance was working with towards the end of the ring buying process and he mentioned that if I have fair skin (which I do) to not go with the rose gold because it would not look as good. Shame on that guy! My fiance didn’t want me to be unhappy with the color so he went with the classic diamonds and white gold which is stunning!I absolutely love my ring the time and effort that was put in to the design. I am thinking maybe I will add a little rose gold in with the wedding band so I still have a small element of soft pink.
I have been very excited through the entire wedding process. While it is a bit of a daunting task, I feel like I have a pretty good handle on the details and feel like I am way ahead of schedule.I have my venue (ceremony/reception space), baker, DJ, invites prepped and ready, my dress, decorator, photographer, videographer and caterer. The things I have left on my list are: save the dates, shoes, bouquets/boutonnieres, asking my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids, honeymoon, registry and I am sure I am forgetting a few things…All in all I think I gave myself enough time to plan and not give myself anxiety for the big day. I CAN’T WAIT TO GET MARRIED TO THE MAN OF MY DREAMS!
