Bumble – each of us was the other’s first Bumble meetup. After some silly chatting through the app, we met for a first date at Olbrich Park in Madison for a walk along the lake.
We both love baking, so that quickly became an activity we share. We’ve spent so many Saturday afternoons baking together that we coined the term “Saturbake” for our go-to weekend activity. We also love going to the farmers market, so that felt like a natural choice for our engagement photos. We also just love being together in the same place. Even when we’re each doing our own thing, we really enjoy each other’s company. We’re both natural introverts, but we never get sick of each other.
Brian: I can’t think of any specific moment. It was more just the sum of many small things: the way we greet each other when we’ve both come home from work, how we handle disagreements. I guess it’s just the little ways she makes every day better that made me realize I wanted to spend the rest of them with her.
Emily: It didn’t take long at all to learn what a kind, loving person Brian is, and he’s a fantastic communicator to boot. His calm personality really put me at ease as we navigated that exciting early stage of our relationship. I can’t pinpoint one exact moment when I knew he was the one, but falling in love with him was like seeing clearly for the first time. It was a sense of “oh, THIS is what it’s supposed to feel like”. Someone who makes you feel like that is a keeper.
Brian: I picked up the ring and held on to it for a few months, initially because it was waaaaay too soon to propose, but then a few more weeks because I knew the moment I wanted to pop the question. We had just unloaded our first car load from Emily’s apartment to our new apartment. We were planning to grab dinner once everything from the first load was unpacked, and Emily was arranging some stuff in the closet. I asked her if she wanted to open one more box before we left, and she agreed. When she turned around, I was on one knee holding up the ring box. “How about this one?”
Emily: I wanted something simple and nontraditional. I love the jewelry from Everli, and I picked the Go with the Flow Diamond Ripple ring for its delicate look. I’ll pair the plain version with it for a wedding band. I absolutely love wearing it and thinking about Brian when I see it.
We hit the ground running with our planning! We discovered we both thought October would be the ideal month, and we set the awesome date of 10/10/2020. The weather will have cooled down but shouldn’t be freezing cold yet, and hopefully we’ll have some beautiful fall color. Our venue is on the 7th floor of a hotel right on Madison’s Capitol Square, with gorgeous aerial views of the Capitol, downtown, and Lakes Mendota and Monona.
