Hannah & Frank met while working in Law enforcement, hitting it off very quickly. They followed their dreams together and decided to get married.

Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

Frank and I met at work as Judicial Marshals! He was deployed in Afghanistan when I first got out of the academy, so I worked in his district for a year before we even met. Everyone always talked about how great and funny he was, so I was nervous to meet him. The first time I saw him was over a camera monitor in the control room. I volunteered to do a security sweep for a reason to bump into him! By the time I got to him, every Marshal in the building was there (which made for an awkward hello). He came back to work the next day and volunteered to work my post with me in the afternoon. We spent hours talking and joking around. That was a Friday and the following Tuesday, in the middle of a snow storm, Frank took me out on our first date.

What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. What makes your relationship unique?

We are best friends and love trying new things together. We’re always looking into activities to try out, trips to take, and weird food to try. When we go to restaurants, we always order at least one thing we’ve never had (and of course share the goods!). On the weekends, we always find something new to try – whether it is a high-ropes course, strawberry picking, or getting lost in a state forest. And at the end of the day we come home, watch the Office, and love our cat. There is never a dull moment in our relationship, and I absolutely love that.

How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship?

It’s hard to say exactly when I knew. We both fell in love so quickly. We celebrated our one month anniversary in Portland, Maine together – in the middle of February! It was freezing but that didn’t deter us from having the time of our lives. Yet still, I think the moment I knew that I wanted to marry him was shortly after this trip. I was applying for graduate school in Connecticut, which he was very supportive about, but he didn’t know I was going for my PhD afterwards. I was nervous to talk to him about it, and brought it up at dinner. I told him I wanted to go to a top PhD program which would be outside of Connecticut. He excitedly smiled and said, “that’s awesome – where are we moving?” Without a second thought, he supported my dream and knew he was included in it. We started planning our lives together from that moment on.

Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?

Frank completely surprised me by proposing on our three year anniversary! The previous year had been crazy – we sold our Connecticut house, quit our jobs, and moved to Delaware for my PhD program. The morning of our anniversary, Frank was as romantic as always. We spent the day at a giant indoor arcade where we played for hours and bought sweet laser tag guns with our winning tickets. After I got ready for dinner, I gave Frank his gift. He quickly read my (lengthy) card, and said he had to get my gift from the bedroom. He forgot to open his own gift! When he opened it, he barely reacted and said a nervous “thank you”. I thought that was strange, since the gift was totally amazing!! He positioned me in the living room and told me to close my eyes so he could get my present. Frank isn’t very good at wrapping so I assumed that he just didn’t wrap the present. I stood in our living room with my eyes closed and my arms straight out – awaiting the present to be placed in my arms. I felt Frank grab my hands, so I opened my eyes to see that he was down on one knee. His eyes watered as he asked me to marry him, and the moment couldn’t have been more perfect.

We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!

I am obsessed with my ring! I love antiques, so Frank picked a band that is very vintage. It’s so unique and beautiful. There are small details throughout the ring that make it so special. Everyone always thinks that I picked it out for him!

Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?

Our wedding is all planned! We both knew what we wanted so planning was just a matter of booking everything. When people talk about how stressful wedding planning is – we just don’t get it!! I always dreamed of being married outside of an antique barn, so when we found the Barns at Wesleyan Hills it was fate. Like everything else in life, Frank and I had a blast planning our wedding together. It has been so fun spending these moments planning our giant party as a team – and we can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together!
