We met on Bumble, a dating app! Sean was the second person Jessica ever met up with and when they sat down to dinner she said, “I am new at this and didn’t send a photo of you to my friends, please don’t murder me.” We both feel lucky he found that to be endearing!
We both share a love of reading and hiking, and often enjoy watching reruns of “the office” while sipping bourbon and ale8.As foodies, we make a point to go on at least one nice dinner date a month, but we also enjoy making delicious meals at home. Sean’s specialty is his chicken n’ sausage jambalaya, and Jessica make a mean duck breast for fancier date nights.
Jessica: I don’t know that there was a “moment” where I knew Sean was the one, because I take some time to make decisions (at least important ones!); however, some of the things that I appreciated about him early in our relationship were how he was the first boyfriend I had that WANTED to meet my family, was willing to go out of his comfort zone for me, and was consistently really thoughtful in the practical ways I appreciated. For instance, when my lipstick is on sale for one day only, he will use his lunch break to go and pick it up for me. I feel so lucky, all the time!
The proposal happened in Nashville, TN while touring at Sean’s alma mater, Vanderbilt University. The proposal itself wasn’t exactly a surprise, Jessica found the box that “the box” came in the day before Sean proposed– but Sean swiftly redirected her before she saw the ring itself; however, Jessica was still surprised when Sean actually proposed. To Jessica’s extreme irritation, earlier in the day Sean had enjoyed doing a few fake-out proposals. When he actually proposed, a very hangry Jessica was stomping ahead of him towards the car (and dinner). When Jessica turned around to see why he was being so slow, he was on one knee. He had put the ring in one of his handkerchiefs, and Jessica thought he was just going to do another fake-out proposal and ceremoniously blow his nose– but this time, it was real!
Sean purchased a beautiful oval blush-colored sapphire with diamond side stones from an Etsy shop that Jessica loved!
We are having a non-traditional wedding by eloping in our town, going on our honeymoon, and then having a reception with friends and family two weeks later. When wedding planning, we have been careful to stay away from doing things tradition tells us we “should do,” and are staying true to ourselves and only including elements that we think are really important. We are having a largely DIY wedding reception, and are so excited for our guests to see all of the tiny details Jessica is pulling together.
