The Sandy Hook Bay is one of our favorite places to photograph an engagement session. And there is nothing like the summertime at the Jersey shore. We are currently writing this blog post in the midst of chilly March weather so we are going through some serious beach withdrawals.
When Kassandra and Brian agreed to have their shoot in Sandy Hook, we couldn’t have been more thrilled! Brian was home briefly between deployment, so we only had a small window of time to schedule this session and we really lucked out! The bay is so scenic with its sand dunes and inviting, shallow water you can walk right into. We had very soft and golden end-of-the-day light. Kassie and Brian had such comfort with each other and it made shooting them absolutely effortless. I kept telling them they looked like the cover of a romance novel, lol. As the sun was setting, the light became more and more intense so we just continued shooting right up until the end of the sunset. Despite the super romantic vibe between them, we love the fact they still wanted to have their son present for some of the shoot. He’s such an important part of their world. We wouldn’t have had it any other way!
Brian and I first met on the widely known and underrated app called Tinder.
Our relationship didn’t necessarily go in the “normal” order that one would plan for. I got pregnant 4 months into dating Brian. I think that would scare a lot of men, but not Brian. He is the most amazing father and partner I could have ever asked for. The support we have for each other keeps us going in life and we know that we are strong enough to get through many of life’s unexpected obstacles.
I pretty much knew he was the one from the moment I met him. I’m not a huge believer of love at first sight, but do remember the feeling I had when I met him and I have never had that feeling before.
We had our first date at iPlay America in Freehold, NJ. I’m a kid at heart and I wanted to go to a place where we could let loose and have fun. Little did I know, he was an even bigger kid at heart! The proposal took place at the same spot. We were on our way there 3 years later, to the day to bring our son and celebrate our anniversary from when we met. It was a rainy day and he left me with with the diaper bag, the kid and umbrella. (I think he was nervous). He proposed to me outside and my best friend was hiding behind cars snapping pictures. She then pops out and directs us inside and leads me to a room where most of our friends and family were hiding! It was a great surprise, I cried of course, but it was absolutely perfect! I was very impressed he was able to keep it a secret.
I’m a very laid back person who generally doesn’t wear any jewelry. I work with my hands as a hair stylist so from the beginning I told Brian I didn’t want anything too flashy. Well, he seemed to have other plans. The ring is a cushion cut with a beautiful halo of diamonds surrounding it. A little much for me but I’m not complaining. I’m not going to lie I kind of like the attention it grabs when people comment on it!
The wedding planning went on a bit of a hiatus due to my husband joining the US Army. With that being said, we jumped the gun and had our wedding at the courthouse. My family has been asking when we will do an official celebration but with Military life, comes unpredicted plans. Once he is out we plan on doing a vow renewal to officially celebrate with our friends and family and making the dream day I always wished to have. We will have a few extra guests on the list (our kids), but I think that will make the day even more special!
