Your 4 year dating anniversary is the perfect reason to do some photos together! We had this date planned for a while and of course the day prior we saw some heavy rain in the forecast. We chatted about rescheduling, but instead, Kelly said she was game for anything, even if that meant being soaked by rain, so we ventured out and I am SO GLAD we did! Photos at dusk in the rain might officially be my new favorite thing and so is celebrating dating anniversaries! Here’s to many more of those and to these two beauties!
When we get asked that question, we always look at each other to decide if we want to tell the official or un-official version! So I’ll give you both and let you decide which ones you think is which…
*We had mutual friends! My roommate was dating his coworker and we ended up at the same bar one night and hit it off!
*I found him on Tinder and stalked him later on Facebook, before striking the most straight-forward conversation with him through social media. I looked like a stalker but somehow, he still gave me a chance.
We are always laughing!! We don’t take a lot of things seriously and somehow manage to laugh about pretty much everything! Other than that, we are pretty different, which makes our relationship special. I am both a wedding planner and professional dancer, always the life of the party; while he is a nuclear engineer, IronMan finisher and triathlon addict!
Our story is very particular and the answer to this is: we got married before we were even ready! I am originally from France and was living in the USA on a J-1 Internship Visa of one year. My plane ticket to go back home was already purchased and I had no intention of staying, even less getting married! We met about 6 months into my internship, moved in together after one month of dating, because we both got kicked out of our places and always knew that our relationship had an expiration date. But when we got closer to the end date, we realized that our relationship was special and worth giving a try on the long term! The only way for me to stay in the USA without having to go back to France first was to get married before the end of my visa so he proposed and we got married 2 weeks later. You can imagine that I never took that plane back home!
When we decided, about 4 weeks prior to my flight date that we wanted to get married, I knew the proposal was going to happen VERY soon, as we had to get engaged AND married within that time frame. So every day, no matter the occasion, I was always imagining the proposal to happen! As the days passed and we ended up going on a weekend ski trip on our 6 months dating anniversary, I was convinced he was going to propose right then and there. And as you can imagine, he did not … So the next day, on a Monday night, as I was grabbing dinner with my 3 girlfriends, I spent the whole dinner venting that he did not propose and at this rate, I was sure he had changed his mind about marrying me! Little did I know, as I was about to order dessert and saw a giant chocolate cake arrive towards me, he was going to propose THAT NIGHT! The only night that I was not expecting it! The server brought a cake that said “Voulez-vous m’epouser” which is “Will you Marry me?” in French and he came out of the kitchen, in a full on suite, and got down on one knee in front of my best girlfriends! Despite it all, he did surprise me and it was the best night!
He ordered my ring online through Brilliant Earth, with the help of his older sister. I did not give him a lot of information regarding my taste in engagement rings but he knew that it had to be Rose Gold. And as he opened the box and I saw this gorgeous round diamond with a diamond band, and the rose gold metal, I was so in love!
You guessed it by now but we ended up getting married a couple of weeks after he proposed, on March 19, 2016! As a full-time wedding planner, I gathered all of my vendor friends to make this very intimate 12 people wedding as beautiful as could be! We got married outside in the park and went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurant with only our immediate family and best friends. It was still the best decision I have ever made, even almost 4 years later!
