Lauren, Ryan and I originally met late last fall, but decided to wait until springtime to schedule their engagement shoot as the weather in Wisconsin doesn’t always cooperate. And that’s exactly what happened when we chose to shoot in late April. It snowed! Crazy, heavy, awful cold weather at the end of April. As bummed as we were, we decided to push it off a couple weeks. And while it still wasn’t sunny on their shoot date, Lauren + Ryan embraced it. They kicked off their shoes and danced on the beach anyway! Their spontaneous and easy going attitudes have me looking so forward to their August 2019 wedding in Milwaukee.
Ryan and I met over Ryan’s two favorite things – Golf & Reubens at a place where I spent most of my summers. I was waitressing at Fire Ridge Golf Course the summer before my last year of college and Ryan was golfing for a work outing. During the outing my friend who was working outside encouraged Ryan to come upstairs to meet me after. After golfing, Ryan went up to the restaurant for food and beers and we talked all night. Ryan ended up waiting for me to get off work that night and we went out for some drinks in Grafton…..The rest was history… 6 years later here we are. 🙂
We value the time together where we can disconnect from the outside world and enjoy each others company. We love having bonfires on a Friday night where it’s just us two or binge watching a good tv show together. If one of us if out of town or busy, we will never watch the show without each other — we always wait for the other one to be there to watch together. We both love the outdoors whether it’s boating, playing sports or snowmobiling. We are very open and honest with each other and push each other to be the best we can be.
I knew Ryan was the one because I could be myself around him. There was nothing I had to change about myself – we love each other for our weird personalities. And I know he would say the same about me. Our first date felt like we’ve known each other forever. We knew we loved each other within the first 3 months of our relationship – we knew right away.
Ryan and I were up north (in Minocqua) for the Taft family vacation. Minocqua has a special place in my heart because I’ve been vacationing here with my family every year since I was little. It is one of my FAVORITE places to go. It’s a great place to get away and relax. It was a Sunday, August afternoon at sunset when Ryan asked me to go on a boat ride while everyone else was at my cousin’s cabin. I of course said yes and started packing up the cooler. We were cruising around the lake when Ryan said he thought he saw one of the buoy’s hanging off the front of the boat. He asked me to check it. This could happen so I did not think anything of it and went to go check. I then turn around, the music is off and Ryan is down on one knee. The proposal was perfect. We were in my favorite place, in a boat at sunset. The proposal was a complete surprise to me and he couldn’t pick a perfect setting for it. The only other person who knew before the proposal was my Dad.
Ryan had the ring picked out at least one month prior to the proposal. He picked it out all by himself! I had nothing to do with it.It’s simple, but has a ton of sparkle. It’s perfect!
Yes, we are so excited for the day to come to celebrate with our friends and family! One more month!
