Ben and Mallory’s gorgeous engagement session with preppy vibes was nothing short of romantic, fun, and long awaited! Portraits were taken along the shore of Lake Martin as well as the beautiful countryside and woodlands of Russell Lands at sunset. Mallory’s red attire makes the photos pop and stands out perfectly with the natural blues and greens of the surroundings. Ben and Mallory even popped a bottle of champagne during the middle of the session to celebrate the occasion. Their love for Auburn football and exploring new places as well as their dedication to helping each other achieve their dreams is small in comparison to their love and dedication to each other!
Ben and I met while we were in community college in Alexander City at Central Alabama Community College. It was August of 2012. We were both ambassadors for the college, but we didn’t really speak to each other for the first few months that we were there. I thought he was entirely out of my league yet too arrogant for my liking. I was also more concerned with having the time of my life with my new-found college girlfriends, and a boyfriend was the last thing I was looking for.
In late October 2012, I had just finished an evening class at the college when my friend asked if I would go with her to meet one of her guy friends. It was my first semester of college, so of course I went along. Ben just so happened to be with the guy that my friend and I were going to meet. I thought to myself, “Not this guy…” (lol). But after we were forced to have our first real conversation, I found myself instantly attracted to Ben and hoped that he felt the same. To my surprise, Ben felt something, too. He asked his friend for my phone number and texted me before I could even make it home that night. For the next few weeks, Ben and I found ways to get our group of friends together— just to spend time around each other. Then Ben began delivering hot chocolate to my work, walking me to classes, and leaving flowers on my car at school. Finally, on December 7, 2012, Ben picked me up with flowers in hand, and took me to dinner and a movie for my birthday. I was so nervous I could hardly breathe— and Ben almost hyperventilated while asking me to be his girlfriend as we sat in the movie. Ben and I were inseparable from that day forward. For the first time in our lives, we experienced what we had always heard about and seen in the movies— love. We both finished at CACC, and then transitioned to Auburn University together.
We both love Auburn football!
Things changed drastically after I finished Auburn a semester early and was accepted into law school. I moved to Birmingham for law school, and for the first time in three years, we were living in different cities. Ben graduated from Auburn and was hired as a police officer in Alex City. I supported him through the police academy, and he supported me through the stressful first year of law school. We made long distance work for a little over a year before hitting pause on our relationship. Ben and I spent a little over a year apart growing, experiencing, and figuring out what we wanted out of life. Suddenly and unexpectedly, we both knew exactly what we wanted—it’s what we’d always wanted— each other.
On April 4, 2019, Ben and I embarked on the road trip of a lifetime. We rented a car and drove all the way to Minneapolis, Minnesota to see Auburn play in the NCAA Final Four. You’re probably wondering why we would ever drive that far. All of the flights were booked as fans from across the country were all trying to get to the games. We stopped just outside of Saint Louis, Missouri, to sleep for a few hours before waking up to make the rest of the trek to Minneapolis. We made it to Minneapolis a little after lunch on April 5th, and Ben immediately wanted to get ready so we could go and explore the city. We got dressed up and headed out to grab drinks at The 508 Bar & Restaurant in downtown Minneapolis. We then made our way to The Stone Arch Bridge and Mills Ruin Park. It was the coolest old industrial park. We walked down below the Stone Arch Bridge and Ben got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Our team might’ve lost in the Final Four, but we won.
My ring is from Diamonds Direct in Birmingham, AL. Ben went in and designed it himself then took his sister and my best friend to pick it up once finished!
Yes! The theme for my wedding day is boho glam. It’s coming up soon (March 21, 2020) and will be taking place at The Hitching Post Farms in Eclectic, AL, which is a more modern barn venue. My two sisters will stand by my side as my matrons of honor.
