Megan and Javi are a classic fairytale romance. The two met in high school and Javi chased her all throughout high school, but the two did not start dating until after high school in 2009. After almost 10 years of dating, on a family vacation to Cuba on 5/22/18, Javi knew it was time to take the next step.

On a cliff overlooking Varadero Beach, the couple were with their two best friends (Eddie and Kassidy) and were dressed up for a fancy dinner. Under the pretense of taking a nice picture together overlooking the beach, Javi brought Megan to the overgrown cliff and got down on bended knee. Per the couple, “It was a very intimate proposal, only being surrounded by our two best friends who are also our Matron of Honor and Best Man, and it was perfect. We ended the evening having dinner and drinks with family and friends on the top deck of our hotel, overlooking the beach during sunset.”

Javi received input from Kassidy in choosing the style of the ring and professional guidance from his good friend Bobby who is a Jeweler at A.R. Morris in Greenville, DE. The engagement ring was designed by Coast Diamonds and has a vintage/timeless look to it with rose gold metal encasing a single oval diamond surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds. The two plan to wed on 7/19/19 and have finished all the planning. The two will marry at the Hotel Dupont in Wilmington Delaware incorporating a live salsa band, tall palm frond and orchid centerpieces, Cuban decorative tiles, and a 1956 Mercury Montclair.

Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

Javi and I met in High school, but we never dated. I was the girl Javi flirted with and adamantly tried to pursue, but we did not start dating until after high school in 2009.

What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together.

We are both very private people. We enjoy the privacy of our relationship, and like keeping to ourselves – We are both goal oriented and are always looking for ways to better our future together – We love traveling and finding new places to eat, but we also prize our “usual” spots and like being known as “regulars” at several restaurants in our hometown – Our dog, Moose, is our baby, and we love spending time with him and try to take him everywhere with us.

How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship?

We knew pretty early into dating that there was no going back for us; that this was it, but we can’t recall a specific moment. It was more like an accumulation of little moments that made us realize we were meant for each other and that we had already known this for some time – One of the main reasons I think we work so well together is because we hold very similar family and relationship values. We both value the bond of family, and we want a big one. We see ourselves building a life together and get excited about the thought of it.- We have never given up on each other, despite any differences or arguments we’ve ever had. We have always let go of anger very quickly and naturally and have always put our relationship first.

Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?

Javi proposed on a family trip to Cuba on 5/22/18, on a cliff overlooking Varadero Beach. We had been on the beach all day, enjoying the sun and music and planned to go to a nice dinner that evening with the entire group who traveled with us as well as my cousin Silvia, who lives in Cuba. After getting dressed up for an upscale dinner, Javi asked our best friends who came with us on the trip (Eddie and Kassidy) and I to walk out to the beach for a group photo while the sun was setting. He found an overgrown path to a cliff overlooking the beach, and as we prepared to take the photo, he got down on one knee and proposed! It was a very intimate proposal, only being surrounded by our two best friends who are also our Matron of Honor and Best Man, and it was perfect. We ended the evening having dinner and drinks with family and friends on the top deck of our hotel, overlooking the beach during sunset.

We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!

Javi received in put from Kassidy in choosing the style of the ring and professional guidance from his good friend Bobby who is a Jewleer at A.R. Morris in Greenville, DE. The engagement ring was designed by Coast Diamonds and has a vintage/timeless look to it with rose gold metal encasing a single oval diamond surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds.

Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?

Our wedding is just around the corner (7/19/19) and we have finished all of the planning and only have a few things to take care of during the next month. Our wedding will tie into our engagement day and our trip to Cuba, including a live salsa band, tall palm frond and orchid centerpieces, Cuban decorative tiles and a 1956 Mercury Montclair.
