We met in college at Georgia Tech. He majored in Computer Science and I majored in Civil Engineering. We met through mutual friends our freshman year, and we were friends for about a year before our first date. One day he asked me to his fraternity’s formal in Charleston, South Carolina and we started dating right after that!
We are complete opposites when it comes to politics, religion, etc. We keep each other’s minds open and the conversations are never boring. He has brought me out of my shell, and I have brought him down to earth a little bit. He has taught me to love adventure, and I have taught him to appreciate a relaxing night at home. We both have the same morals and family values which keep us grounded, and we feel the same way about how we want to live the rest of our lives.
For me, it was a gradual process. We were friends first before we ever started dating, but now we have been together for almost 7 years. I think when we were going through high stress times during finals week in college, tough projects at work, or dealing with health issues of close family members and friends, the way we supported each other without any hesitation sealed the deal for me. He never fails to make me laugh even when I feel like the sky is falling. Little did I know, Alex bought the ring 6 months before he proposed! I think it is really important to make each other happy day-to-day but it is even more important to support each other through the harder times when things are not easy.
We had been planning a trip to Europe as a big graduation present after we both graduated from college. One of our stops was Ireland, and we took a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher. We were at the top of the cliffs admiring the view; I turned around and he was down on one knee! It was an absolute surprise, and I completely freaked out! I was speechless for about 3 minutes, then I started quizzing him with questions. I think it took me 10 minutes to finally say yes, but I am so happy I did!
The ring is gorgeous and I am in love with it! It is a white gold band with a big diamond in the middle with smaller diamonds and baguettes on either side. It has a sort of antique feel which is perfect for me. We had not discussed rings at all, so Alex designed it by himself with the jeweler and it looks incredible. After the wedding I will have two bands on either side of my engagement ring with baguettes, and Alex will have a simple platinum band.
We were super excited (and a little anxious) to start planning the wedding. I have always wanted a fall wedding, and we both love the outdoors so we knew we wanted something outside while the leaves are changing colors. Our venue is in the North Georgia mountains in the middle of old stone ruins. It is the only venue we looked at, and it really fits our personality. We are counting down the days!
