Shawday and Charlie are two precious souls that met through a mutual friend at a weekly dinner party! One week the dinner was cancelled, but that didn’t stop Shawday and Charlie from striking up a side conversation about how bummed they were about dinner not happening! Eventually, Charlie asked Shawday if she wanted to grab a beer at a brewery she liked (Charlie paid attention from the very beginning!), and their date lasted eight hours. Needless to say, they’ve been inseparable since then.
As they were planning their elopement, they didn’t think they needed or deserved to take engagement photos, but I’m glad that they went ahead and planned an engagement session anyways!! We traveled to three different spots in the city, each with its own feel but still capturing that classic San Francisco feel.
We met through an intimate group of mutual friends at a bi-weekly dinner party. We hit it off the first time we met and bonded over tattoos, music, and complimenting one another’s Vans.
What makes our relationship special is that we truly are best friends and we really do enjoy doing everything together! We share the same sense of humor and our days are filled with laughter. We also share an incredible bond over our love of music and dancing together (now that going out dancing isn’t possible anymore – sometimes we have dance parties in our living room).
On our first date, we went out on a Tuesday night for a beer and ended up migrating to a dive bar and staying out until 2:00am. We talked for 7 hours – ABOUT EVERYTHING – and really opened up to one another and made each other laugh a lot. It was definitely the most successful first date either of us had ever have. We went out a few nights later for dinner at a swanky restaurant, danced the night away at a club that was playing old school 90s, and ended the night eating at a taco truck in a parking lot down town. We both knew we had found our person pretty early on when we realized we could easily go from a dive bar, to fine dining, to a nightclub, to eating from a truck and have just as much fun in each setting. It was seamless and meant to be.
We got engaged in Santa Cruz at one of our favorite beaches. It’s a spot we had gone to a lot when we first started dating and Charlie took me there to watch the sunset. Charlie writes incredible poetry and asked if he could share something he had written for me. He began reading me the most beautiful poem he had written about our relationship, all that we had experienced together, how much he loved me and the poem ended with him asking me to marry him. Saying it was the easiest yes ever is an understatement!
Charlie got my absolute dream ring! It’s a Tiffany pear-shaped ring with an aquamarine center stone surrounded by diamonds. When I saw it at a store a year earlier, I thought “In my wildest dreams!” I never imagined I would own it one day. What makes this ring so special is aqua is my favorite color and both of our birthstones. It’s also an incredibly unique looking ring and I love that the center stone is a gemstone.
We are so excited that we chose to have an intimate elopement in the redwoods and that has taken a lot of the stress out of wedding planning ( in general, but especially during covid! ) When we planned our elopement, we had no idea that Covid was just around the corner and we are so fortunate that the unexpected pandemic hasn’t impacted our wedding plans at all. We love that we sat down and dove deep into exactly how we envisioned our wedding day, realized what we wanted was a simple elopement, and are doing it! Oh also – we just can’t wait to be married already!
