It was so much fun roaming the open coastline as the sun set over the open beach that we had to ourselves. Heres a look at Nick and Brittany’s engagement session.
My first memory of meeting Brittany was during a late-night studying session with a few friends. She walked in and sat down by herself at one of the big tables and I immediately noticed her. I leaned over and told my friend how pretty that girl was and he told me to go talk to her. I was too nervous so I devised a plan for him to go say hi on my behalf, but that didn’t pan out. My first thought was “it’s such a big campus I probably won’t see her again” However, that quickly proved to be untrue. The following semester she ended being in the statistics class I was a teaching assistant for. We didn’t speak much but sat close and it gave me some time to think about what I could do to finally formally meet her. It turned out that one of her good friends was one of my mutual friends from high school and set up a study session with us three. From then on, it was history.
Right now our lives are full of stress, long-days, and uncertainty but every single day we both know we’ll be able to talk about our day without judgement, talk through hardships, and come out on the other side happy, recharged and ready to tackle the next days challenges. We move through life one day at a time and without being together it would be infinitely harder for both of us to succeed in what matters to us. We are each other’s better halves.
I knew that Nick was the one when he went out of his way to return a grocery cart for an elderly woman. I remember thinking about how kind and compassionate he is to others. It was such a simple act of kindness. It is so rare to find someone that is always thinking about other people. But Nick is that special person that always thinks of others. So, in that moment, I knew that he was the one for me. Other than her determination, competitive edge, overwhelming kindness towards others, perseverance, intelligence and humor. I knew Brittany was the one when she went off to law school in South Carolina and I was left in Colorado to finish my fifth year of college, getting my second degree. We facetimed almost every night for a year, sharing feelings, hardships of the day, and continuing to grow our relationship. I spent all day thinking about when we could finally spend time together and after a whole year of that feeling never going away even for a single day, I knew that she would be the one, and to this day after 5.5 years, I still get that feeling everyday.
I planned the proposal without Brittany knowing. I was able to convince her friends to invite us to go to a winery in Temecula (Leoness Cellars). Once we got there, I had arranged for a private wine tasting and tour of the vineyard for her and I. Once we got to a beautiful spot over looking the vineyard, I proposed in front of our friends. She was so surprised and cried tears of joy. She said YES! Then we celebrated over food and wine for us and our friends! It was truly a special moment that I will not forget.
We shopped for the ring together. We only went to one store (Robbins Brothers), but from the moment I tried on the ring I knew i was in love with it. The ring is made by Henri Daussi and is an emerald cut diamond in a halo setting. It’s a one of a kind design from Germany.
We are excited to write our vows for each other. There are so many reasons why we love each other, and we can’t wait to share those reasons with our friends and family.
