From the Photographer

Justin & Taylor were one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever met! Their day was full of joy and laughter and their love for one another is so evident. We loved their simple and elegant details throughout the day.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

We wanted to focus totally on each other and the idea of bringing two families together. It was important for us to not lose sight of the importance of the day and get too wrapped up in the idea of planning a wedding. Our ceremony was reflective of our Catholic faith, and we loved the idea of an industrial feel, incorporating classic style and colors for our reception. We chose a champagne color palette accented with black and gold.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

It was important for us to not feel like we couldn’t enjoy every moment worrying about set up and clean up. The beautiful thing about The Cookery is that the space itself felt decorated. From the classic brick, light fixtures, and bar it fit our vibe perfectly. We did add touches to our menus with ribbon and wax melts and special take home gifts for the little ones, along with cigars at the bar.Donovan’s dish was far beyond amazing. The food was fantastic and the staff did an absolutely amazing job with set up and clean up. We couldn’t have done the planning without them. They thought of every detail and far exceeded our expectations!

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

Tre Bella did a fabulous job creating our vision. We wanted tables that were tasteful, full, and spoke a sophisticated elegance. We chose to have every other table decorated differently in creams and greens. Arrangements included hydrangeas, roses, and greens accented with numerous tea lights in gold and glass containers. We of course didn’t see the final arrangements until we walked into The Cookery for the reception and could not have been more pleased.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

We must say that the most important part for us was being surrounded by those we love the most. We did take time between our ceremony and reception to capture photos so we were able to be fully present with our guests at our cocktail hour. We have often commented how happy we were with that time with our guests. We also took dance lessons for about 6 weeks before our wedding. It made our first dance so special and I think we even surprised ourselves. Well worth our time and effort!

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

We wanted total simplicity. Justin chose classic black tuxedos paired with white shirts, patterned socks, patent shoes, and bow ties, and his groomsmen complimented with the same. I chose an off-white, backless, crepe dress, classic satin heels, with rhinestone earrings. Our bridesmaids selected individual gowns in champagne.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

In the modern world of dating, we met on Tinder of all places — so glad we both swiped right! Justin planned a perfect proposal at the lake I grew up on in Northern Indiana. I thought it was odd when we were “coaxed” to take a walk, rounding a corner only to find his “will you marry me sign” in lights, roses and champagne. We spent the weekend celebrating with family. It was perfect!

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

We had an amazing day and week leading up to our wedding so it is hard to pinpoint just one special moment. I must say however, that probably the biggest surprise was our rehearsal dinner. We tried to think of someplace that we love here and what better place than Merritt’s Grill. The staff at Merritt’s took care of everything and decorated their outdoor space to the point it was unrecognizable. Claudia turned the space into what felt like a magical garden. The lights, decor and staff were beyond amazing — truly special people who made our evening so very memorable! Claudia and her family are incredible!!!!

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Make certain your photographer is someone who really understands what you are looking for. Lacy was certainly that. Our pictures are fabulous and we love every one. We were so lucky to find her!!!Our words of wisdom would be to not forget what the day is about and don’t let the planning become overwhelming. Enjoy every second as it goes so quickly.
