From the Photographer

Vincent and Amanda were high school sweetheart and they always dreamed of a magical wedding in a beautiful castle. From Amanda “Eleven long years later our fairytale dreams finally came true”.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

I always dreamed of a magical, fairytale wedding in a castle – like something out of a Disney movie. Oheka castle was the first venue we visited and we knew it was perfect. Our color palette was ivory, blush, and navy blue.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

I love branching flowers so cherry blossom branches were a big part of the decorations. I think the branches gave a magical feel to the castle. We also used a lot of ivory and pale pink flowers. I specifically asked for as little green as possible. The lack of green made the bouquets and centerpieces beautifully elegant and just looked so perfect in the castle.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

I was given full reign to plan the wedding except for one aspect – my husband wanted to pick the band. The Nerds, a rock band who wears shorts and thick rimmed glasses, was not at all what anyone expected in our fairy tale venue, but they were even better than I could have ever imagined.

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

I’ve known since I was a kid I wanted a wedding dress that looked like Sleeping Beauty’s gown – corset top with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a big dramatic skirt. When I first saw my dress on the hanger, even before trying it on, I knew it was the one.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We met in high school. It was a snow day and we met up with mutual friends at a park to go sledding. We sat on my big, red toboggan and started talking and we just never stopped talking. He proposed on our 10 year dating anniversary. He took us to a lake in central park, which is where one of our first dates was. My sisters and cousins were secretly hidden in some bushes to take pictures. Apparently I never actually said yes after he proposed, I just yelled “SHUT UP” and kissed him! There were two failed proposal attempts before the actual proposal. A couple months earlier he had planned to surprise me during a photoshoot I had, but I wound up canceling because I was in the hospital for two days with noro virus. Then a few weeks later he planned on doing it on the mountain after a day of skiing, but I fell and broke my leg. He said I had one more chance before he just proposed in a hospital!

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

Our vows were really special. We wrote them ourselves and they were adorable. Also our first dance was magical. We practiced for weeks and it payed off!
