From the Photographer

I’ve been waiting for since I first saw Anjelica’s “I’m engaged!!” Instagram post in January. Anjelica and Cody FINALLY got married at Bridle Oaks Barn this past Sunday. They were surrounded by the most loving friends and family, along with the most GORGEOUS details!!

THE COUPLE

There was so much to love and share about this wedding day, but I’ll start with probably my favorite part: this couple. Anjelica and Cody were the sweetest and most genuine pair. I had been following Anjelica on Instagram since Sasha’s wedding (Sasha is Anjelica’s best friend and the most popular person on our blog). Sasha spoke about Anjelica often and they honestly could be twins. Anjelica posted that she was engaged and even though I didn’t know her, I was SO happy for her. Everyone deserves their happily ever after!! Anjelica sent me an email a few weeks later as a referral from Sasha. She asked us to photograph her wedding and I couldn’t be more excited. The venue was stunning, we were a perfect fit personality wise, AND she is so detail oriented.

I didn’t get to meet Anjelica and Cody in person until this Sunday, but we had been communicating for months and were social media pals. The first thing Anjelica did when we walked in the door was greet us with a huge hug. We were both so happy to finally meet in person and get this day started. Anjelica was so sweet and loving to everyone in the getting ready room, even though the nerves were running high. Cody was the exact same way to us and every one he encountered. They were the perfect pair.

THEIR LOVE

As the time grew closer for the two to share their first look, all Anjelica wanted was to get outside and meet her groom-to-be. She didn’t care about anything else but that, and that’s exactly the way a wedding day should be. Being with your loved one is the whole reason for the day. As the day progressed, the couple realized that nothing else truly mattered on the day besides their love. When the first look arrived, Anjelica tapped Cody on the shoulder in a secluded garden. Cody turned around and started tearing up. At the ceremony, Cody teared up even more and tried his hardest not to cry as Anjelica walked down the aisle. It was right then and there that I knew this marriage would last a lifetime. For the rest of the day, I could see their love pour out for each other more and more.

THE DETAILS

My other favorite part of this day at Bridle Oaks Barn was the amazing details. Anjelica spent months planning every intricate detail of the day along with the amazing coordinator, Ashley. But, it was the physical details that caught my eye. Anjelica sent me a few pictures throughout the process of items she picked up for her day. This included a geometric ring holder filled with a moss-like greenery. As we arrived at the venue, though, the coordination of the day really showed. Lining the ceremony site were similar geometric lanterns, and the same design was found throughout the reception. Her colors of navy, purple, green, and maroon were displayed through every portion of the wedding day. Every detail was so cohesive and I was in photographer heaven.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

We didn’t have a specific inspiration but we chose our date based off the venue’s availability. We loved Bridle Oaks so much we didn’t even tour any other venues. So when we chose a December wedding and with the forestry of the venue, I knew I wanted to do something dark but romantic and thought jewel tones would be perfect for a winter wedding.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

With choosing jewel tones as our color palette, we incorporated navy, plum, burgundy and emerald green into every aspect of the wedding, from the bridesmaid’s dresses and groomsmen’s matching ties, to the flowers, invitations and linens. We also added gold geometric accents to brighten up the dark colors. My maid of honor helped cut our place cards into hexagons on beautiful plum card stock and I hand wrote each name with gold calligraphy pen. I wanted to have a little personal touch in the decor. Chic Sign Designs also created some gorgeous signs to match our theme.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

Atmospheres did such an incredible job with the florals. We relied mostly on flowers for decor and it truly paid off. They were beautiful! Atmospheres created amazing centerpieces and aisle decor that was also used in the reception for decor. The geometric terrariums filled with flowers and succulents to match the guest favors were an awesome touch. My bouquet was gorgeous and the bridesmaid’s bouquets all matched with the same jewel tones we picked out. Everything was cohesive and dreamy.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

Our first dance was probably my favorite part of the wedding. We took dance lessons and had a routine choreographed just for us. Our instructor at Arthur Murray was awesome! Our close friends and family knew we were taking lessons but not everyone. So when we performed it on the big day, everyone was blown away. We nailed every step perfectly and it could not have turned out better! We also did a dedication song for my and my husband’s maternal grandmothers who passed away. Sharing that special moment dancing with our moms in their honor was truly magical.

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

I have an old soul and truly feel I was born in the wrong era at times! I love old fashion, particularly from the 50’s and 20’s. So I decided to go with an old Hollywood glam look. My dress matched the themed perfectly. I picked it out before even trying it on! I wanted something sleek, simple and sexy. And it delivered. We topped it with some Hollywood style waves and a headpiece that matched the pearl and rhinestone beading in the bandeau of my dress. My shoes were navy to match Cody’s suit and the overall theme, and also served as my something blue.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

Cody and I met at work and I knew there something about him from the start. It was the way he walked with such confidence that attracted me to him. We first hung out in a group outing with coworkers at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios in Orlando. Sparks flew right away. We then went to the same event again, but this time just us. Cody was a complete gentleman the entire evening which only made me like him more. Then 3 years and 3 months later, Cody proposed to me at Universal. It’s such a special place to us and I’m so happy it has been incorporated into these pivotal moments in our life.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

The first look. I had not felt nervous at all in the weeks leading up to the big day. I was fine all morning. Then as my hair and makeup was close to getting done, my affect started to change. One of my bridesmaids noticed immediately and asked what was wrong. I told her all I wanted was to see Cody. Not because I needed reassurance or because I was freaking out about getting married. I needed to see him because that was all that mattered to me. He was the reason for all of this. Not the planning, effort and chaos. Not all the people waiting to watch us exchange vows or the flowers. It was him. And everything melted away as soon as I finally saw my groom. It was perfect.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Hire a day of coordinator! If you’re at all lucky, you might end up with one like mine. She was absolutely incredible. She executed my vision perfectly and was there for anything and everything I needed. She made the day so seamless. Also, just enjoy it. Don’t get caught up in the minutia. At the end of the day, you’re there to marry the love of your life and you don’t get that opportunity again. Cherish it. As far as marriage advice, don’t ever stop dating your partner. Dating and wooing doesn’t end when you get married. Yes; you sealed the deal but that doesn’t mean you should ever stop trying. Every day I look at Cody, I see the same guy 26 year old boy I fell head over heels for at Halloween Horror Nights over four years ago. As long as you always look at your partner that way, you’ll be alright.
