From the Photographer

Cathryn and Tom’s wedding is a bright example of environmental philosophy. Looking through the album, one can see that the new facets of wedding minimalism. Refuting many of the accustomed elements, they succeeded in creating the richness of the moment. Just two colors and eco-friendly decor, the minimalistic bride and groom’s looks allowed the couple to highlight the triumph of the moment. It is indeed an example to follow.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

We had been dating for nine years before we proposed to each other. So, we can say we were the family long before a wedding day. Because of this, we decided to make our ceremony as homeliness as possible. To accent the meaningfulness of the moment, we’ve chosen a bohemian style marked with the white and red color palette.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

Being passionate about sustainability and proud supporters of local communities, we strived to reduce unnecessary waste while planning our wedding. Where possible, we put our wedding dollars towards supporting local artists or to products which would have a life beyond our wedding.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

To highlight the bohemian wedding conception, we used many white and red flowers. We had huge bouquets of flowers everywhere: in the hands of the bride and bridesmaids, in the buttonholes of men, in any corner of the wedding place. It was a riot of flowers.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

Our wedding favors were cotton produce bags containing two metal straws, a thank you card and homemade beeswax wrap made with beeswax we sourced from our local farmers’ market. Tom carved a love heart into a potato and we used this to stamp the bags.

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

Tom had already worn his suit before he wore it to our wedding. I wore a two-piece outfit; the long-sleeved lace top purchased during a holiday in Tokyo and the skirt custom-made locally in Melbourne.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

It was so long ago. We’ve met more than 10 years ago. We even do not remember this day. However, the proposal was a bright event. Our closest were waiting for this moment and when Tom proposed over family dinner, it was the moment of celebration for the whole family. My father at once brought a bottle of bubbly he had stored in the fridge for two years, waiting for our engagement to happen.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

Truly, we have never thought that our parents and closest people would be so agitated with our wedding. Their happiness was so anticipated for us, it made our day. Warm, sincere emotions colored celebration in all the hues of the rainbow.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Our wedding was eco-friendly and we can say: do not focus on many needless elements of wedding décor. Happiness, special wedding atmosphere could be created without a myriad of material things. Save the environment, your efforts and your money as well.
