From the Photographer

Hannah and Casey met for the very first time on a blind date, set up by mutual friends in Downtown Charleston. No question that that’s the location they chose for their engagement session. When Hannah and Casey showed up dressed completely in black, I knew immediately that their wedding would be one of a kind. Before her wedding, Hannah told me that she has dreamed of her big day since forever, so she had plenty of time to figure out what she wanted and you can tell she did. Her inspiration was the classic Charleston Elegance and yep, I would say she nailed it! The locations were well chosen, starting from the Andrew Pinckney Inn, to Merchants Hall as their wedding venue. A perfect combination, I couldn’t have recommended anything better. In addition to perfect planning, they were also lucky. After a couple of rainy, windy and not so pretty weeks, we woke up to a perfectly sunny, not so cold day – haha even though Casey was freezing the entire wedding… Good thing he now has a wife that’s the opposite!! Their honeymoon will be in Maui, Hawaii!!! Casey should be warm there.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

We’re very simple people and love that classic look/style. We wanted everything black and white with some pops of gold (from all of our venue decor) and pops of green with our greenery! We just had a very classy traditional style in mind when planning.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

Merchants hall is already super classy with its open room of exposed brick and ceiling full of beautiful chandeliers. We knew we didn’t need to do much decorating so we kept it simple. We divided the space in half with some ivory draping. Had the ceremony on one side and once the ceremony was over the drapes were pulled apart and it led to the reception half. I’ve always wanted “family style” seating. So we had about 4 rows of long tables set with candles and greenery all the way down each row.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

So to keep with our simple/classic style we had mainly white flowers for the ladies with some anemones with the black center in my bouquet as well as Casey’s boutonnière. For the reception the tables were lined with dark green ruscus garland with candles throughout.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

Neither of us are huge cake eaters so we had a small cake made for pictures but our main dessert was Krispy Kreme donuts on donut stands surrounding our cake!We both call each other honey a lot and so for Casey’s tux I got him a Gucci pocket square with honey bees on it and our wedding favor for guests was a bunch of honey sticks. We also had a memory table of all of our loved ones that had passed away with a bunch of pictures of them.

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

For my dress, hair, makeup I really wanted that old Hollywood glam with the long satin train and the babydoll curls and the soft but sultry makeup! If you’ve ever seen burlesque just think about the scene with Christina Aguilera in the green satin dress with her tight curls that’s the look I was going for! For Casey we both knew a classic black tux would be so dapper. We added a few touches to make him stand out a little more like the crushed velvet Steve Madden loafers and the Gucci bee pocket square. And don’t forget the Rolex date just I gifted him on wedding day

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We met through mutual friends and our first date was the best first date either of us had ever been on. We spent a lot of our relationship on Daniel island, walking the trails near the dock and exploring the little beaches over there. So we got dressed up one Saturday night went to dinner at Sermet’s on the island then he asked if I wanted to go down to the trails. So we went and he had a cooler with champagne and a blanket. We found a spot laid out the blanket and he popped the question!

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

The first look! We were both so excited to see each other and for the day in general!

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Enjoy every moment and let it all soak in because everyone will attest that it will fly by!
