Band | Sweet Tooth and The Sugar Babies

It was important to both of us that all of the important people in our life could celebrate with us and we knew we wanted to throw a good dance party! What made the wedding extra special was the fact that Jeff’s mom is a pastor so she officiated the ceremony. We had gorgeous pink and orange flowers. My sister got married the year before and had a similar color scheme for the flowers which was just beautiful – I wanted a similar theme. I choose grey bridesmaids dresses so that we could have colorful flowers without it clashing! The setting at the Bohlin is so beautiful we didn’t want to do much in the way of decor that would take away from that. We knew we wanted to throw a big party so a great band was key. The Sugarbabies were everything we could have hoped for – once the dancing got started we never left the dance floor!

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

We had a discussion early on about the “principles” of our wedding. it was important to both of us that all of the important people in our life could celebrate with us and we knew we wanted to throw a good dance party! From there, Newport was an obvious choice as my father lives there and we both love the area. What made the wedding extra special was the fact that Jeff’s mom is a pastor so she officiated the ceremony. She even asked two of her close pastor friends to come up at the end of the ceremony and bless our marriage.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

The setting at the Bohlin is so beautiful we didn’t want to do much in the way of decor that would take away from that. We had bright and colorful flowers and some beautiful draping in the tent but that was it! All of the paper (invitations, save the date, menu cards etc) were all done by my sister who has a side business as a greeting cards designer. It was extra special being able to tailor the cards to exactly what we had in mind and to have my sister create them!

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

We had gorgeous pink and orange flowers. My sister got married the year before and had a similar color scheme for the flowers which was just beautiful – I wanted a similar theme. I choose grey bridesmaids dresses so that we could have colorful flowers without it clashing!

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

We knew we wanted to throw a big party so a great band was key. The Sugarbabies were everything we could have hoped for – once the dancing got started we never left the dance floor!

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look?

I tried on a wide variety of dresses but found I really liked fairly simple lace dresses. I quickly fell in love with the Mikaella line because the were very flattering and while still elegant and beautiful. My veil was my something borrowed – my sister had used the same one a year earlier – it just had to be dry cleaned after it had blown into the ocean during her wedding! I absolutely loved my shoes – I’ve even worn them several times since. For dancing I had a shorter Bhdn dress to change into – which was a good thing because it was very humid that day!Jeff got his suit at Indochino. He had “Yonitz” embroidered in the blazer (and still wears it for work today!)

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We both work in management consulting – we met at work as we were the same tenure. We’ve never actually worked together on a project but got to know each other through office events. He proposed in December 2017 at the end of an Escape the Room game. It was pirate themed and just the two of us. They kept having to give us clues because we were so bad. the end of the game ended with a treasure chest – in it was a ring! He then had organized a surprise brunch with all of our friends afterwards.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

Our first dance – we were both pretty nervous about it given it was all choreographed and both of us are enthusiastic but not skilled dancers.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Don’t stress over the small stuff – no matter what you will have an amazing day celebrating with all of your friends and family.
