Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

Our wedding was perfect! Our color palette was blush pink, white, and a bit of gold. We did not really stick to a specific theme but because our wedding was in Newport, RI we tried to bring some nautical aspects to the wedding. We are both Catholic so we did have our ceremony in a church in Newport. Our priest is actually a family friend that has married generations of couples from our family so that was special.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

The ceremony was at a church so we were only able to put two large floral pieces at the altar, which looked fantastic. They were understated but really looked great next to the bride and groom at the front of the church. The reception decor was mainly florals and some pieces such as table numbers that we designed ourselves. For our guest seating arrangements, we had a friend write them on a gorgeous gold mirror that was placed in the cocktail hour space.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

The florals for our wedding were a mixture of white and light pink flowers with a lot of greenery. We used peonies, hydrangeas, ranunculus, and some white roses. We wanted the greenery in the bouquets to compliment the blush bridesmaids dressed. The centerpieces were simple arrangements of the same flowers in a silver bowl that looked gorgeous against the white walls and tables of Belle Mer.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

One of the most special moments for us were our first dances . My (the bride) father and I won a father daughter dance in 8th grade to the twist so we had to somehow incorporate that into our dance together. We started off with a slow dance to “My Wish” by the Rascal Flatts and then broke into a twist which people loved and it was so fun out there on the dance floor for us! The bride and grooms first dance was to “Smile” by Uncle Kracker which was a very special song to us because my husband always used to say the song reminded him of me because I had the best smile and whenever this song would come on the radio he’d think of me!

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

The bride’s dress was designed by Amsale and it was purchased from Nordstrom. Believe it or not it was the first dress tried on by the bride and nothing could beat it! The dress had a lace bodice with a sheer lace back and sheer lace straps. The bottom of the dress had a horsehair hem that gave the dress a lot of flow and body. A jewel belt was sewn into the middle of the gown for some added bling. The groom used Men’s Wearhouse for his tuxedo. We went with a dark grey tux because it complimented well with the light pink dresses of the bridesmaids. After much perusing on Pinterest to find the right color combos! The groom wore a white tie with a grey vest. We loved both looks and we wouldn’t have chosen another look!

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

My husband and I met through a friend. We had all gone out together one night with no intentions of being set up but we met each other and started talking and we dated for about 6 years before getting engaged! My husband took me to Marina Bay in Quincy, Ma which is a beautiful spot right on the water where we had our first date. We sat at the same table we sat at on our first date. After dinner we walked around the water and he dropped on one knee! It was perfect and very sentimental for us!

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

For us, the best moment was walking down the stairs of Belle Mer being introduced as husband and wife and seeing all the people sitting out there that care about us so much and came to celebrate our big day with us. That was a really special and unforgettable moment!

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Don’t stress! It is possible to plan a wedding in less than a year! We got engaged in August and got married the following June so we had about 10 months to plan the wedding! If you know what you want go with your gut feeling!
