Leslie and Matthew, who are both University of Texas graduates, met at a very rainy Southern Methodist University tailgate party. Once they were engaged they knew that their wedding belonged in Austin, Leslie says. “We love the laid-back, inviting feel of the city, its natural beauty and charm.”

For their breathtaking reception, the couple rented out the glamorous Driskill, filling the historic hotel with pink and white flowers and setting up plush seating areas and even an ice cream bar. “The entire Driskill mezzanine had a beautiful floral scent,” Leslie says. “It was heavenly to smell and see.” And although the couple’s beloved cat, Louie, wasn’t able to make the festivities, he was represented in their invitations, family crest and bar pillows. “That warmed my heart and made everything that much more personal,” Leslie says. As an alternative to writing their own vows, she and Matthew gave their reverend three adjectives describing each other to read off during the ceremony, and Leslie’s matrons of honor created a book with handwritten notes and pictures from the whole party of bridesmaids. “I’m beyond thankful to have been surrounded by such dear friends on my wedding day,” she says.

For couples planning their weddings, Leslie says, “I know most engaged couples already hear this all the time, but seriously don’t stress! The details can be really overwhelming, and remember that you can’t please everyone. Focus on each other and take time to make sure you set a strong foundation for your marriage.”
