Marla and Eduardo were married at Caffè Storico, a restaurant at the New-York Historical Society. Marla is an editor for Apple News in New York. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and received a master’s from Northwestern. The bride’s mother is a real estate broker for Engel & Völkers in New York. Her father retired as a vice president at Frederick Goldman, a jewelry manufacturing company in New York.

Eduardo is the head of strategy and analytics at Google in New York. He graduated magna cum laude from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago and received an M.B.A. from Harvard.

How They Met

A friend of mine and a friend of his have a mutual friend, and when all three got together, the conversation turned to fix-ups. Eduardo had just moved from San Francisco to NYC and didn’t know many people. We had a good old-fashioned blind date at a wine bar.

Eduardo and I were invited to drinks with his out-of-own friend at the same wine bar where we had our first date. I figured the choice of venue was just a nice coincidence and didn’t suspect anything. Needless to say, his friend didn’t show up, and he proposed at the same table where we first met, giving me the ring his late father had given his mom.

The Wedding

Eduardo’s family and friends threw us a big engagement party in his hometown of Santiago, Chile, a few months before the wedding. So, for the wedding in New York, we wanted something small and low-key, very New York in flavor. Caffe Storico is a restaurant we had enjoyed many times with friends and it was intimate in size, so every seat was precious. The best feedback we got from the guests was that wedding truly felt like us!
