Matty and Alexis
Matty and Alexis
We wanted our day to mimic the elements in Colorado. There were lots of wildflowers, lavender, dreamcatchers and subtle earthy tones throughout. We chose to share private vows prior to the ceremony. It was a very special and intimate moment we will cherish forever. Matty’s brother officiated the ceremony and all three of us had a hand in writing a ceremony that was specifically unique to us as a couple. It was laid back, romantic and fun.
We used a lot of decorations from the ceremony and our wedding planner brought them down and set them up beautifully at Gorrono Ranch. Guests were guided to the tables by looking at their names written on tattered paper hanging on the handmade flowing dreamcatchers. Pendleton blankets were strewn about the deck for both looks and warmth at night. Names were written in calligraphy on geode slices at the table setting. Geodes and wildflowers adorned the tables. Our guestbook was a snowboard from NeverSummer Industries with artwork by the brother of the groom/officiant.
Wildflowers gave the brown barn a beautiful pop of color and mimicked the outside elements up in the mountain.
The bride started her day with a private yoga class with a handful of friends led by a beloved teacher and friend while the groom mountain biked. Prior to the ceremony, we shared our private vows on the beautiful valley floor Telluride we took pictures with our bridal party at the ceremony site beforehand to help facilitate moving right into enjoying cocktail hour with our friends and family immediately following the ceremony. During our first kiss at the end of our ceremony, our guests were given a glass of champagne to toast to our new bond. At the cocktail hour, we rode horses and the guests also took turns riding and taking photos with the horses. This was very special to see and experience in such a beautiful location. Our band kept the entire party dancing well into the night. Everyone continues to compliment us on the beautiful and moving personally crafted ceremony, the horses, the food, and the music!
The very piece I found for our wedding was my kimono by Rish Atelier. It became the inspiration for the entire day. I went with a simple dress by Alexandra Grecco to compliment the beautiful Israeli lace. The bridesmaids chose their own dresses. Their color and fabrics all flowed together perfectly… one champagne, one navy, one pale blue with a mix of silk and lace. The guys’ looks were inspired by Ralph Lauren’s double RL line and the signature Pendleton style. The khakis, white button downs and suspenders were all from Ralph Lauren. The groom wore a Ralph Lauren vest and paisley pocket square. Both of our rings are by Todd Reed, based in Boulder, CO and they contain raw diamonds.
Matty and Alexis grew up 1.5 miles away from each other in New Jersey. They met when they were 15 and developed a 7 year friendship that turned into a summer fling in 2012. That September they embarked on their first true adventure together: driving across the country to move Matty back to Colorado with his new black lab puppy, Wall-E. The 3,000 mile gap between Avon, Colorado and New York City made for two years of acquiring an excessive number of frequent flyer miles until Alexis made the move to the mountains.
For the last four years they have planted roots in Colorado and have explored much of the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe together. In February of 2016 Matty proposed while they were out snowboarding the backcountry near their home by the Gore Range Mountains in Colorado. It was a sunny and quiet day with no one else around at that location when he asked Alexis marry him.
The private vows witnessed by only the photographers and our dog Wall-E was a moment we will never forget. There’s not much more detail than that. It was simply amazing.
I highly recommend utilizing at least a day of planner. Her and her partner made our day so effortless and stress-free. While making decisions in the planning process its so important to remember there are no “rules” and whatever works for you guys and makes you and your partner feel excited and happy about the day is exactly how you should do it! On the day of, take a moment to stop, breathe and take in all the love and beauty that’s surrounding you with your new partner, family, and friends.
