From the Photographer

Megan and John are such a fun couple and I knew from the moment I met them that their wedding day would be nothing short of perfect! The couple opted to do a first look before their ceremony & we walked around Downtown Minneapolis to get some photos before they said their “I Do’s”. During their ceremony the couple wrote their own personal vows to one another, which is always a favorite moment of mine! Guests enjoyed a pasta bar for dinner and for desserts there were cupcakes and a s’mores bar!

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

We wanted to make it a fun celebration for everyone! It was important for us to make things as stress free as possible for everyone involved. Our friend Kelly officiated the wedding and it was such a sweet and funny ceremony.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

Watson Block is a beautiful venue in Downtown Minneapolis that really didn’t need any additional décor aside from the beautiful floral arrangements by Northerly Flora.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

The flowers were the main décor for our event! Molly at Northerly Flora knocked it out of the park with the bridal bouquet, table arrangements and the arch. It was all so beautiful and all of the flowers are grown right in Minneapolis!

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

We wanted to keep things pretty informal and fun and make it a relaxed reception so our meals were served station style so people could mingle and eat as they wanted. We had a few different desserts including delicious cupcakes by Sammy’s Sweets, a Kransekake from Taste of Scandinavia and North Mallow s’mores bar for dessert .

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

I started by looking at Pinterest and then researched a few different local bridal shops and set up an appointment at Flutter Boutique in Northeast Minneapolis. It was my first time trying on wedding dresses and I wanted to go alone so I could narrow down a style that truly felt like me and I ended up finding my dress on the first trip! It was a two piece gown by Lillian Wild and it felt elegant and comfortable and was exactly what I had hoped for! John was trying to decide between grey or navy and ended up with a great blue suit from Bonobos.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We met through a mutual friend shortly after we had both relocated to Minneapolis and started dating about a year later. We got engaged at our home last December before we headed to visit family for the holiday.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

I think the best part of the day was having so many of the people we love all together in one room. It was so special to bring our friends and families together to celebrate.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Staying on top of the communication with vendors when you’re starting to tour venues or inquire about other services is key. Once we found our venue and decided on a date everything else went quickly and we really enjoyed the process! Also, having day of coordinators was such a huge help in making the day truly stress free. We really didn’t have to worry about anything other than showing up and having fun!
