From the Photographer… Oanh & Felix are one of the sweetest couples I’ve met! The couple has been together 10+ years and made it official this summer starting with a traditional Vietnamese ceremony on Friday and an American ceremony on Saturday. Both ceremonies had touches of pink and gold. Desserts featured their corgi Rocky, in cookie form! One of my favorite things from their day was the Vietnamese table greeting the couple did with each table at their wedding ceremony along with a toast. It was so awesome to see all the traditional parts of a Vietnamese couple come together on their beautiful wedding day!

Tell Us About Your Wedding…

Our wedding was a two-day celebration. As Asian-American individuals, we wanted to embrace our cultural traditions. So, on the first day, we had a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony which involved a presentation of the gifts for the bride’s family, honoring our ancestors and presenting tea to our elders. The next day, we had our traditional American ceremony at a Catholic church and reception at the hotel venue. The theme I was going for was a soft and romantic wedding. I’ve always loved blush and gold together.

 

There were minimal decorations needed for the church and the hotel since both of the venues were already beautiful. We just kept it really simple. For the head table, I used the bridesmaid’s bouquets and altar flowers from church as our centerpieces. My globe guestbook was DIY. I hand-painted the globe with white acrylic paint and gold leafed the seven continents. And finally, I had one of my bridesmaids help with the lettering.

 

My bridal bouquet consisted of blush, ivory and soft pink garden roses, white hydrangea and silver dollar eucalyptus leaves. It was a perfect mix of elegance and romance. Originally, I wanted peonies for my bouquet because they were my favorite flower but they were not in season. But my florist still did an amazing job with all the florals at my wedding. I was really happy at how everything turned out.

 

We had a traditional Chinese 7 course family style menu. Felix, my husband loves to DJ for fun so he DJ’d part of our wedding night. We had personalized cookies with our names and wedding date on them. We even had corgi ones to represent our boy, “Rocky” -The photo booth was a huge hit at our wedding. Everyone had a blast!

 

I wanted something timeless and elegant so on my wedding day, I wore a form fitted, fit&flare ivory laced dress with an illusion neckline made by Romona Keveza. I wore a cathedral veil to complete the look. My bridesmaids wore blush dresses that came in two different styles. Felix wore a navy tux and his groomsmen wore navy suits.

 

We had many special moments on our wedding day. The first look, the vows, everything felt so real. The first dance was very emotional, just thinking about how much we’ve been through for the last 11 years.

 

Tell Us About the Proposal…

We met through mutual friends at a party. After 11 years of dating, he finally proposed to me on a cliff near the Mississippi River that overlooked the 35W bridge in Minneapolis, MN. It was simple, but perfect. Just the two of us.

 

Any Advice You’d Like To Share?

To have fun and not stress out about the little things. Don’t procrastinate… to compromise and stay within your budget. Just breathe.
