The bride’s parents got married in Lake Tahoe so they wanted to recreate the special day in the same place. The bride and groom love Disney, so their wedding had touches of the natural elements of Lake Tahoe with Disney. Her dress looked like Princess Elsa’s dress from Frozen. Every detail was thought over and it was magical. It was also one of the biggest snowstorms in Tahoe on the day, so their first look was in a whiteout blizzard!!

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

We didn’t really have a specific theme or color palette and tried to keep things classic, elegant, and neutral. Since Lake Tahoe is such a special place for us, we tried to use that as the inspiration behind our day. We pulled ideas from different parts of our lives and history as a couple.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

We wanted the decor to be elegant but reflect parts of Tahoe. The sugar pine cones along the aisle and pine throughout the garland, along with the muted blues and greens reflected the colors of the lake and the trees that we love so much. I had LOTS of help with my wedding decor. My aunt and cousin painted antique frames and my friend made all of our acrylic signage. We also had furniture to create cozy seating areas and all of the throw pillows matched the colors of the flowers.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

Florals were one of the focal points of our wedding decor. From bouquets to centerpieces, arches and garlands, they were everywhere. We even mixed in faux flowers on the feature tables and around the base of the cocktail tables.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

We included subtle nods to Disney, since that is where we were engaged and where we love to go when we can as well as the University of Arizona, where we met. The welcome sign had a hidden Disney quote and we played Disney covers throughout different parts of the evening. My cape was 100% inspired by Elsa. We picked Sweet Caroline as our last song as a shout out to the U of A and our favorite bar- Dirtbags (i know right). Sweet Caroline was the last call song- what else would be appropriate for wrapping up the best party of our lives?

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

My look was a combination of Elsa and my own personal style. I found my dress over a year in advance and knew it would be perfect. My cape was made from a giant piece of tulle and some scraps of lace from a picture I had in my mind. I kept my makeup very simple and had my hair long and curled. I wore Louboutin’s (they are my favorite) and my Great Grandmother’s jewelry. We kept Brandon’s look very simple- his navy suit and champagne tie was modern but would still look good looking back 20 years later.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We met in college through mutual friends. 5 years later we went to Disney World and Brandon proposed. I had absolutely no idea it was coming and when we stopped to take pictures in front of the castle he got down on one knee.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

Some of my favorite moments were…  The few moments with my cousins right before leaving, walking out in a blizzard for the first look photos, the minutes before walking out to the ceremony with our wedding party (champagne please!). Everyone thought that Brandon and I had planned the shout out to Grey’s Anatomy in our vows but we added “Pick you, choose you, love you” independently. It wasn’t even written on my paper, but I added it as I was reading them during the ceremony. There were a couple times where we were walking around or talking to someone and I know it hit us both how incredibly special the day was. So many people traveled to Tahoe in the crazy weather to be there and we could not have asked for more.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Don’t try to control things that are completely out of your control (the weather) and be patient! Enjoy the little moments and enjoy being with all of the people who mean the most to you. If there is anything really important to you on that day, make sure you tell multiple people and make sure they force you to do it. My only regret about the evening was not going back into the cold for 5 more minutes to do individual photos and not being patient enough to get the family photos that I had originally listed. I mentioned individual photos to my maid of honor- but the day of she was busy taking care of everything else and didn’t force me to go back outside. I think communicating the most important things to basically everyone is key (in advance)- but make sure those things aren’t unrealistic. Don’t try to control the details on the actual day because it’s never going to work, and make sure you assign someone to go out before the party starts and take pictures of everything you spent months planning for. Make sure someone puts plenty of bottled water and carbs in your hotel room for after the party! Being married is the best. I still look at Brandon every day and get butterflies and all I want to do after work is hang out with him. That may seem simple, but it is the every day stuff that matters most!
