Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

Our inspiration was classic and timeless with a minimalist aesthetic – something that when looking back many years from now, wouldn’t look too trendy. With the wedding in December, we wanted a winter theme with just evergreen, white, and touches of silver as the color palate.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

We hired Greenlion Design out of Newport, RI for the florals and design Kim and her partner did an amazing job in realizing our winter wonderland vision with beautiful evergreens, white floral, and romantic candles.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

We used an array of white florals in all elements of the design including the bouquets, centerpieces, and ceremony. Greenlion also incorporated beautiful evergreen designs that not only added some drama to the decor but made the entire room smell like winter.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

We loved every part of our wedding, but our band – Flipside – was irreplaceable. They were engaging and had everyone on the dance floor, especially all the kids. My husband has two children, my step sons – age 12 and 9 at the time of the wedding – and it was wonderful to see them smiling, dancing, and having a wonderful time on the dance floor all night long!

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

My husband and I both embraced the winter season for our wedding day looks. I knew when we picked our date in December that I wanted long lace sleeves with a classic frame – inspired by Grace Kelley. Timeless and classic. My husband knew immediately he wanted a velvet tuxedo jacket to add some style and personality to the classic men’s look.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

My husband and I met online – the modern way! The proposal was very intimate in our home Christmas Eve. We had attended a party earlier in the afternoon and then were planning a quiet evening at home before family get togethers on Christmas Day. Cocktails, Christmas carols, and a roaring fire. Very romantic.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

One of my favorite moments was our first look. We actually had the moment on the docks at the hotel we were staying at in Newport – Forty 1 North – prior to heading to the wedding venue. The day was just slightly chilly, but very foggy, which added some wonderful mystery to the surroundings. I loved the intimate moment just the two of us to breath and enjoy the water before the day events of the day began. And the photos came out beautiful!

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Do you – don’t feel pressure from social media or anywhere to spend money, energy, or stress on things that don’t bring a smile to your face.
