How did you meet?

We initially met through a mobile dating app. We messaged for a few weeks before we finally set up our first date after the new year. Looking back, we’re very grateful for this chance connection, as without this we likely would have never crossed paths based on our social and professional circles in New York City.

Tell us all about the proposal!

Ryan: One of our favorite relaxing getaway locations is to Greenport, NY on the North Fork of Long Island. We’ve had many trips there to enjoy the wineries, restaurants, and overall quaintness of the town. I proposed in the park in the center of town in front of the carousel while we were on our way to lunch at our favorite local oyster bar – Little Creek Oysters. I had called them ahead of time, and they did an incredible job surprising us with a table, personalized menus, and champagne! Everything went off without a hitch and was one of the best days of our lives.

Tara: I was so surprised to learn that Ryan had made a trip to NJ to ask my parents for their blessing to propose, and even more surprised that everyone had kept the secret! I wasn’t expecting him to propose, especially upon arrival to Greenport, and it allowed ample time to call all of our families and friends and still have the night to celebrate together. It made our “happy place” so much happier, and the day was absolutely perfect.

Describe the wedding planning process. Why did you choose the vendors you worked with?

Tara: I was introduced to Daniel Grafman from Vision Event Co. by a friend who had used Daniela at her own wedding a year prior. Upon speaking to Daniela, about a year and a half before our wedding date, I knew that she was the perfect person to help plan our wedding, as her attention to detail is unmatched. She already had relationships with all of our vendors, so I really trusted her lead on who to use within our budget. Everything went off without a hitch!

The venue, Maritime Parc, is where we had the ceremony and reception overlooking NYC. It was special to us to be getting married in the city we currently live in (Jersey City), while overlooking Manhattan, the city in which we met. My uncle officiated our wedding, as he did my sister’s wedding 13 years earlier, and we had a cantor co-officiate.

Daniela recommended Faze 4 Sound Image band along with Faze 4 ceremony strings, which absolutely made our night spectacular and fun. Adam Leffel totally understood my vision for modern flowers and decor and I loved all of his work. Our photographers, Chris Lane and his wife Jasmine, were super comfortable to work with and knew the venue well. NST Pictures did a phenomenal job on our films. Another fun addition to the night was the photo booth, AmazeBooths, who gave us an album of all of the photos taken that night.

How was your wedding day? The more details you can provide, the better! Please also describe your design and decor choices.

Tara: The rain held off for us, and we were really able to enjoy the indoor/outdoor space of our venue, along with ferry rides to and from Battery Park to our venue. Everything went perfectly, and everyone was happy and relaxed the entire day. We danced the night away and had the best day ever!

Tara : Design and Decor choices: The venue, Maritime Parc, is a modern space with spectacular views of NYC and the Statue of Liberty, with a 360 degree balcony and views. I wanted to keep the decor modern and airy and let the venue and space speak for itself. Our chuppah was lucite, the base of our flower arrangements were mirrored, and all the flowers were white. I also wanted a lot of candles. Our families wore a mixed-metallic wardrobe to go with the theme.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

Ryan: The entire entrance to our reception that led into the Hora. We were announced as The Rolfs for the first time as we entered to Montell Jordans “This Is How We Do It,” to our first dance to Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me,” and culminating with an awesome Hora amongst our family and friends. These were the best 10 minutes for me, arguably in my life, outside of the ceremony itself and marrying my best friend.

Tara: The first dance was my favorite part, as we had rehearsed it for months with dance lessons from Fred Estaire, and it went really well! Our first dance song is truly special to us, and the title is engraved in our wedding bands.

What advice would you give newly engaged couples?

Plan ahead, but work to enjoy the entire process from the engagement through the planning, and take extra time on your wedding day to step back and revel at what an incredible and special time in your life this is. Also, we enjoyed having our honeymoon slightly delayed, as this gave us time to let our new marriage sink in and gave us a new adventure to look forward to.

How old are each of you and what are your professions?

We are both 32 (31 when we were married). Ryan leads sales for a data technology company and Tara works in social media marketing. We both completed MBAs while being engaged and up and through the wedding (Tara from Columbia Business School and Ryan from NYU Stern).

How did Vision Event Co. help you to make your wedding day possible?

Vision Event Co. helped us plan the wedding from start to finish over the course of a year and a half! Daniela gave us the peace of mind to know that all of the vendors were top-notch, and that no stone or detail was left unturned, all while staying within budget. My entire family called the Vision crew our “wedding fairy godmothers,” as they literally were doing it all to make sure our day was perfect, from coordination of vendors, to wedding day emergency kits, to bustling my dress, to directing our guests on when and where to be. They were such a huge part of our day and they were SO fun to work with as well!
